By taking something old...we had to turn it into something new! This was an exciting project as i wanted to try and create an in fashion and upcoming fashion piece out of something old and quite un-fashionable...like my mum wide leg flared hippy trousers!
Some research.
This was the most useful link in the world! It wasn't very informative but more helpful to me for inspiration and ideas of what i could do with my own work. I decided to look at something like this because it was very difficult to find a designer or artist that works specifically in this way, and personally i think this was far more informative! The lady that does all this work is in fact an artist/ designer...so technically...not researching an artist helped me loads!
Julia Barbee.
Julia Barbee has degrees in Marketing and Three-Dimensional Design. She has shown her sculptural work nationally, and her clothing line, Frocky Jack Morgan, has been featured in regional fashion shows and periodicals. Julia currently sells through a number of boutiques in the Northwest, and just opened a new location in Portland housing her studio in a shop called Flutter.
I found her extremely helpful because the website i was on made it very helpful when it came to actually deconstructing the garment i was going to re-furbish!
Final Outcome.
This is what my garment looked like once i had finished it. The leather waistcoat was hemmed at all edges and he seam allowances took into account. I love the fact that i spent absolutely NO money on this project at all...the belt buckle was my great great aunt's from the late 1800s and i think it is much in style now due to the chunky belt buckles coming back into fashion. To make it look a little more rustic and so you can tell it was originally something different, i decided to leave the original seams in, as part of the detail...which i think makes it look quite edgy and more interesting. As a whole i am very pleased with my outcome. =)
