This project was were I had to focus on what i loved most in my life...so thats where i started. We were told that if you died and you could take anything you wanted with you to the afterlife what would it be?
These were the things i thought of:
Decided on what was most important to me in my life and a few of the major things i wrote down in my sketchbook ^^^
They included things like, my family so i wasnt alone, the weather so i had variation, home so i had somewhere to stay and nice things i thought i would need like my bed and clothes and entertainment =)
Although these were the things i wanted to take...i had to make them out of paper as it was tradition for the chinese to burn paper versions of things into the afterlife for their loved ones =) This is where our project started and we had to make things out of paper so we could take it with us!
The chinese traditionally made things out of joss paper to burn because it was seen as the "spirit money" or "hell bank notes" to them, so it was kind of symbolic to make it out of the joss paper.
Red is the chinese colour for happiness

Bert Simons.
Bert simons is a paper artist who creates 3D things out of paper by folding and layering paper. He has made things like 3D faces by printing onto thin card and then cutting tiny pieces of the card out and modelling it into the shape of the face (its amazing because he even has the shadows in the right place!).
He has also made things like actual sized 3D people with all the details and everything!
He studied the art of the woman and created a full figure version of her!

Haruki Nakamura.
This artist creates 3D moving objects out of paper..? He makes them out of gears or cog shaped pieces of paper and makes 3D structures of them!
They even have handles to spin them round with?!
His work is soooo complicated but SO AMAZING at the same time.
Ingrid Siliakus.
Shes uses book pages to create some sorts of 3D structures. Some are like houses with stairs winding around the outside of the house and windows and extra details an its all made out of pages of a book with its binding still on etc.
I think it creates a very detailed and beautiful image that is both elegant and COMPLETELY mind blowing!
A little more research and stuff.
This page in my sketchbook explains what people use in china to burn there paper possessions and also about what they like to send away...like clothing and slippers and robes and money. Whereas in the uk, where this is practiced, they burn things like ipods and cars...not as traditional!
Things i used to make out of paper when i was little:
SNOWFLAKES
DOILEYS
PAPER CHAIN PEOPLE
PAPER LANTERNS
PAPER CHAINS
Final Outcome.
After deciding what actually makes me happy in my life...i figured its a number of things, like happiness, love, friendship and everything that makes a life normal. Im fed up of sadness and all the depressing things in life...so my most relevant thing i could think of was something bright and cheery made of something very similar...and the things that people buy me that cheer me up more than anything else, is flowers. This is what i decided my final piece to be, because i think i would want to remember happiness, love and friendship when in the afterlife...however i would make one small change, everyone would have to make them for me...i came up with the structure of the flowers myself but the way structures like this and others, came from a young person i found on youtube =) pretty sure it classes as origami. Thank you who ever you are..!
